Under heavily contentious
circumstance, Joe Tandy Racing won this years Formula Ford
Festival at its first stab at the prestigious event. Driver Nick
Tandy took Pole position for his Heat and duly won it in style,
meaning Pole for the Semi Final. in treacherous conditions Nick
pulled clear of the field and won by a margin of 2 seconds from
James Nash, But an early safety car meant that his semi was the
slower of the two and Nathan Freke, winner of the other semi took
Pole for the Final with Nick starting in P2. As the Final got
underway in horrendous conditions, an altercation with Freke put
Nick down in 19th and last position, and seemingly out of
contention. A simply storming drive ensued, which saw Nick back in
the top 10 with 10 laps to go, when a safety car was dispatched
due to an incident involving Peter Dempsy. As he saw the safety
car, Nick had to check up quickly and spun on the exit of Graham
Hill, and as he did a number if cars passed him under the yellow
flag. As he didn't leave the circuit of come to a standstill at
any point, Nick slowly and safely reinstated himself back in the
6th position he held before the safety car was deployed.
On the restart Nick was able to lap
between 1 and 2 seconds quicker than anybody else on the circuit,
and quickly overthrew Richard Tannahill for the lead with 3 laps
to go. At the flag Nick won by 3.6 seconds, sealing a simply
amazing drive. After the race had finished, the Clerk of the
Course imposed a 10 second penalty for his actions under the
safety car, but JTR protested and now the case will be heard at an
MSA tribunal before the result is declared.
Joe Tandy 'it is such a shame the
result is still up in the air, Nick was easily the fastest all
weekend and with such a storming drive in the final he really
deserves to keep hold of his win. This is simply amazing for JTR
also - to come out so late in the year and win the festival first
time is magic, over the last 7 races of the season we have taken
five wins, two 2nd places, three pole positions and three fastest
laps. Based on this level of success straight out of the box we
will continue to run the team for the '07 season in the UK Formula
Ford Championship' 'I would like to extend my most sincere thanks
to our chassis partner RayEngineering, our engine supplier Premier
Power and all the members of the team, including Rob Elmer,
Michael Beckett and Joe Tandy Snr who provided Nick with such a
superb package'
